Após 15 anos sem inéditas, System Of A Down lança músicas sobre guerra na Armênia

Após 15 anos sem lançar nada novo, a banda de rock System Of A Down finalmente compartilhou duas novas músicas: “Protect The Land” e “Genocidal Humanoidz”. Ambas foram lançadas nesta sexta-feira (06) e estão disponíveis nas plataformas digitais. “Protect The Land” inclusive já ganhou até vídeo, confira abaixo:

As canções têm cunho político e falam sobre os conflitos atuais da Armênia, país de origem de todos os integrantes do grupo. De acordo com a revista NME, as duas faixas foram escritas e produzidas pelo guitarrista da banda, Daron Malakian. A intenção deles com os lançamentos é tentar promover uma conscientização maior sobre os confrontos entre Azerbaijão e o território de Artsaque, que é autoproclamado autônomo e fica entre o país e a Armênia.

Apesar de se considerar uma república independente, o território não é reconhecido dessa forma pela maioria dos países do mundo. Em julho deste ano, um conflito antigo recomeçou no local. Desde a Guerra Fria, os dois países vizinhos disputam a região, mas, em 2020, Azerbaijão recebeu apoio da Turquia e Armênia se declarou ao lado de Artsaque. O conflito, então, tem se intensificado, causando a morte de centenas de pessoas.

Por isso, todos os royalties dos downloads feitos pela plataforma de artistas independentes Bandcamp irão para o Fundo Armênia. O clipe de “Protect The Land” conta com imagens reais de protestos e ataques na região de Artsaque. Em post publicado no Instagram, a banda falou mais sobre a questão:

“Os atuais governos corruptos de Aliyev, no Azerbaijão, e Erdogan, na Turquia, não só querem reivindicar Artsaque e Armênia como sendo deles, como também estão cometendo atos genocidas impunemente contra a humanidade e a vida selvagem para alcançar esse propósito. Eles estão apostando que o mundo está muito distraído com a Covid-19, eleições e agitação civil para repreender as atrocidades deles.”

We as System Of A Down have just released new music for the first time in 15 years. The time to do this is now, as together, the four of us have something extremely important to say as a unified voice. These two songs, “Protect The Land” and “Genocidal Humanoidz,” both speak of a dire and serious war being perpetrated upon our cultural homelands of Artsakh and Armenia. The current corrupt regimes of Aliyev in Azerbaijan and Erdogan in Turkey not only want to claim Artsakh and Armenia as their own, but are committing genocidal acts with impunity on humanity and wildlife to achieve their mission. They are banking on the world being too distracted with COVID, elections and civil unrest to call out their atrocities. They have the bankroll, the resources and have recruited massive public relations firms to spin the truth and conceal their barbaric objective of genocide. Between these two dictatorships, there’s a lot of disinformation and silencing of voices within their own countries. Freedom of speech is not something that is enjoyed by everyone, but it is enjoyed here, so part of that responsibility is getting the truth out there whenever possible. We’re here to protect our land, to protect our culture, and to protect our nation. This is not the time to turn a blind eye.
